Kennebunkport

The name Kennebunkport means “long cut bank” and was first home to the Native Americans then 16th century European fishermen, which is still a big industry in Maine to this day. Craggy coastline with waves crashing into the ports filled with sailing vessels. Many still attend the Landing School of Boat Building and Design, and plenty of adventurous travelers will use the port as a tourist destination.

This is the perfect place to raise a family or retire. The town is a mix of New England architecture, white column homes and antique farmhouses. The Bush family, which provided the country with two presidents, hale from this area. Several generations have lived in Kennebunkport, which is an easy place to travel to since it is only two hours from Boston, five hours from New York and the Portland Airport is 30 min away.

Dock Square in the center of town has rows of boutiques, craft stores and restaurants. Such as Mabel’s and the Clam Shack, which was featured on Food Network. For nature-lovers, hike the 65-mile-long greenway, or take a free history tour around town to learn about the past and how to preserve local history. There’s plenty to do on the sea including kayaking, fishing or boat tours. Play on Goose Rocks Beach or take a quick trip to Goat Island Light still active in the Cape Porpoise harbor. During Christmas there is a grand celebration where everyone in the community gets in the holiday spirit, and there are always fireworks on the beach on the 4th of July.
